Continuity Edititing Method 2

The 180 Degree rule

The 180 degree is a basic rule used in film making stating that a camera should always stay on in side of the action line.

Its enforced so the the audience does not become confused and disorientated.

Take a football game for example, if the camera were to switch sides during a match it would seem as if the players went from playing one way to suddenly playing in the opposite direction. This would leave the people watching on T.V confused.

The same applies to a conversation, if the camera were to switch side its would appear that the character would be talking to themselves.
